I am so excited about this hunting season. I’m spending more time in the woods this year than I did last hunting season in 2009. I’ve been given access to 15 acres of land and I’d like to say thank you, Alan, for that.
I love talking about hunting, which by the way after you read this post, please leave a comment at the bottom. Just throwing that out there.
Anyways, like I was saying… I love talking about hunting and so that is why I wanted to write about what I’m using for this 2010 hunting season.
It’s show and tell time so let’s get started…
I’m hunting this year with my Drenalin bow made by Mathews. Even though this is only my 2nd year at bow hunting, I can say that I love shooting my Mathews Drenalin bow. Drawing back 70 pounds with my Mathews Drenalin is incredible easy. I’m impressed with how much let off the bow has when at full draw. It is a powerhouse bow and I’m glad I have it. My Mathews bow might have been more on the pricey side, but it was well worth it, in my opinion.
For the past few years now I have been using a Tree Saddle made by Trophyline USA to hunt from a tree. To me, when hunting with a Tree Saddle, you finally have the ability to hunt where ever you want as long as the tree can hold the weight. I’m not a heavy guy so that gives me a lot of options. You can’t really say that about tree stands, ladder stands, climbers and or hang-on stands. If you’re using one of the traditional tree stand methods, then you know what I mean.
Another cool addition I have added to my 2010 hunting season are the Climbing Sticks made by Muddy Outdoors. Within minutes you’ll be up a tree using this product. Previous seasons I was using a set of screw in pegs that I’d have to carry in and out of the woods every time. Now that I have the Climbing Stick, I’m using less energy getting up the tree. This also helps me from projecting less body odor, because I’m not sweating as much and in result is giving me a huge advantage to have even more chances to harvest a deer.
I am getting ready to pull out my Code Blue Estrous this year for the rut. I don’t buy sent pads from a store to use with the estrous. What I’ve been using are non scented tampons. It might seem crazy, but they work.
One product that I have yet to purchase is a range finder. Even though I’m more confident at gauging distances this season than last, I would still like to use a range finder so that I can be more effective at my shot. I am currently saving up for one.
I have enjoyed sharing what equipment I’m using this 2010 hunting season, though instead of talking more about it, I think I’ll end it there.
I hope you enjoyed it and for my fellow hunters I’d like to say good luck this 2010 hunting season.
Take care.

Travis,
Wow, you are well equipped buddy! Good stuff!
I made a comment the other day about your Mathews Drenalin and you said you loved it (http://travisstowe.com/blog/outdoor-enthusiast/my-first-bow-mathews-drenalin/)
Looks like you are still very passionate about your Drenalin. Did you try the new Z7? Are you passionate about the newly coming Safari? What are your thoughts?
P.S. Thanks for sharing all this stuff with us. I also work full time and find your blog very motivating (in terms of having fun outside a full time job).
Carry on!
Dave
Hey Dave,
About the Z7. It has a different feeling drawing it back then what I am use to with the Drenalin. I didn’t feel it was for me… yet at least. : ) Its a cool bow though seeing the new Safari design really has me interest. I was very impresses with the design. Its great seeing McPherson series grow. I can’t wait to shot it and see how it feels. The Honeycomb Core design just looks awesome however seeing the price at $2000 makes it kind of hard to imagine ever owning one. If I had the cash for it, I would love to get my hands on one but until that day comes I think I’ll be sticking with my Drenalin for now.
What are you thoughts on the Mathews Safari?
Hey Dave, thanks for commenting again. Take care
