Heartland Bowhunter is a fairly new show to hit the tv networks by storm. Personally, I haven’t seen a show quite like Heartland Bowhunter. They have a style of shooting that shows a side of hunting that doesn’t seem to get captured by other popular shows. That’s not saying the other hunting shows aren’t of the same quality. Each show has their own unique editing styles which is good, because it does create interest for all types of hunters and the youth that follow. We need to keep this sport alive and HB uses video in a powerful way to achive it.
I’m not sure what exactly draws me to stay glued to the tube (so to speak) when watching Heartland Bowhunter. I guess it could be the camera movements, music selection, even the footage itself. Maybe it’s how they tell a story, a journey at the beginning leading up to the actual kill. It’s all rolled up in one amazing visual audio experience.
I almost feel as if I am the one getting ready to take a shot whispering in the mic to the camera man… “you got’em?”. What an awesome feeling, especially during the off season being able to recap on the show at anytime. Sometimes when working, I play the shows on my computer as something to watch in the background.
Anyways, there is so much to experience when taking part in the act of hunting. Having the ability to capture that on film and tap into the excitement, sharing the thrill, leading up to the pivotal moment where you have just seconds to draw your bow back and take the (once in a lifetime) shot for the perfect kill. It’s intense.
I have to give it up to HB for the amazing footage they capture. Sure, having some amazing location hunts doesn’t hurt either. But I still think it comes back to how it’s captured which makes it enjoyful to watch. Just look at a few of the images below, these are a few screen shots from the videos themselves during a paticular hunt in season 2.

You know as much as I do that the hunting industry is flooded with shows coming out left and right trying to get noticed. I can’t blame them, I mean I would love to take a camera out on a hunt with some buddies and film the experience…
Wouldn’t you?
That being said, buying a camera and filming the hunts won’t give you that eye catching shows that not only show great hunts, but also tell a story, it take talent and some education. Well, in a way I guess you have to start somewhere, right dreamers? Have you ever heard the phrase… “There are dreamers and then there are doers, but sometimes you get the ones that are both dreamers and doers” ? Those are the ones that impact people’s lives.
HB to me are dreamers and doers. They are presenters in all sorts of ways. You just have to see to show to understand. So get your popcorn ready or bow : ) and sit back because it’s like no other show out there.
For those of you that don’t pay for cable but use the internet to watch TV, I bet you haven’t found online hunting shows that are even worth watching. It’s either low quality or short clips which leaves you feeling empty. Well if that’s you then guess what?… You’re in luck, because HB has taken the next step in providing their TV show on the web. Did I mention the videos are in HD? All you have to do is head over to their site…
…. and watch the most current episode. Pretty cool I think.
HB Season 3 is about to start in June, I believe. If you don’t want to miss out on what’s going on, I suggest you click over to their site and bookmark it so you don’t forget. If you’ve never had the pleasure in watching their show before, well, it sucks for you.. Don’t worry, you can always purchase their first two seasons on DVD from their site. No doubt they are among the best in their ability to represent the hunting lifestyle! They are good people and deserve the recognition.
